I created a powerpoint presentation that needs to be presented on a Windows computer. It was working fine until I created powerpoint "template" for the presentation, and now when we try to view the file as slideshow the screen is completely black.
Any thoughts on this?

A template is not a presentation. Go back to your presentation and save it as a presentation with the file extension .pptx. The .pptx presentation file will play as a slideshow in PowerPoint for Windows.

The file already is saved as a .pptx. It was after I created a Master Slide in my Mac that the PC started having issues with it. I did create two different kinds of Master Slides. Do you think that could be the problem?
Use the same .pptx file that works on your Mac. Why are you changing a working file. A Master slide and a Template are not your presentation they contain layout and format if you want to create another presentation that looks similar to the original presentation. They do not contain your content. If you want more info use the powerpoint help button and look for help on templates. Or try asking about your issue on the powerpoint forums located at answers.microsoft.com.
I created a Master slide inside a working file because I had two customised backgrounds and I was handing the file off to someone else to complete, so when they added new slides they didn't have to bother with adding the background.

Just give them the pptx file and let them make a master slide from the slides in the file.
